Milverton Folk Dance Group

Please keep an eye on this page for any dance event changes!

The Dance Group was formed in 1954 as a night school class at Milverton School by the late Dick Newton. The meeting place for the group has moved a number of times in and around Leamington and Warwick over the years but the name of Milverton has been retained. We have a love of all types of folk dancing and our callers always offer fantastic variety programmes for all levels of ability including English, Playford, Contra, Square, Scottish, Welsh and other international flavours to name a few. We also have home grown talent where many of our callers and even club members have written dances and we are happily aware of them being shared and danced all over the UK.

NEW TO FOLK DANCING?

Do you want an interest that will keep you fit and give you an active social life? Please don't be shy even if you have never tried Folk Dancing before or only remember country dancing when you were at school, we are a friendly club and welcome complete beginners and equally those rekindling their knowledge. Individuals or couples come and give us a try, we will help you to learn some simple movements and before you know it you'll be hooked!

BANDS

There is live music on the first and third Thursdays in the month, on the remaining Thursday’s we use recorded music.

CALLERS

We have five regular callers who work on a rota with occasional Guest callers (usually where there is a fifth Thursday in the month) and also, occasionally, an "All Comers Night" where anyone in the club can have a go at calling a dance or two!

Some of our callers call for other groups across the country and occasionally in Europe for Workshops, Dances and Festivals.

We also have a few of our callers and musicians are available for Barn Dances whether they are for fund raising, family birthdays, weddings, parties, etc. These can be to live or recorded music depending on your funding.  You can contact our Club Secretary for help and contacts for your event.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

We have also run, in the recent past groups for Long Sword Dance and Rapper Sword Dance. If there was sufficient interest one or other of these could be recommenced!

Long Sword Dance can be a good children's display activity so if you want to try something different.

Again you can contact our Club Secretary for help on any of these other activities.
